How Does the Water Cycle Work (Part 2) | Conservation/Sustainability

Welcome to another post on my blog. For science today, we are continuing on our water cycle experiment.

AIM: TO LEARN ABOUT WATER ON EARTH.

Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapor.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapor cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

THE WATER CYCLE EXPERIMENT

Bag 1: Normal Water cycle
Bag 2: Water cycle with CO2 added: like Oceans in climate change

Material:

Bag 1

  • 1x ziplock bag
  • 1x vivid pen
  • 1 cup Cold water
  • 2 drops of blue food colouring

Bag 2
  • 1x ziplock bag
  • 1x vivid pen
  • 1 cup Cold water
  • 2 drops of blue food colouring
  • 1x litmus paper
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Steps:

Bag 1
  1. Get a ziplock bag and a vivid pen
  2. Draw the water cycle (label the parts of the water cycle)
  3. Carefully pour 1 cup of cold water
  4. Carefully drop 2 drops of blue food colouring
  5. Stick the ziplock bag in a window where it receives sunlight.

Bag 2
  1. Get a ziplock bag and a vivid pen
  2. Draw the water cycle
  3. Carefully pour 1 cup of cold water
  4. Carefully drop 2 drops of blue food colouring
  5. Carefully put 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  6. Stick the ziplock bag in a window where it receives sunlight

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small
3 = large

The normal water cycle was good, it worked out good because everything was as we thought. But, the condensation didn't go to the top.

The water cycle with acid was also good, the litmus paper had changed colour to dark white. There were some small droplets in the bag.

Conclusion:

I think that this experiment went out good, I think that next time, we could do better. What I had learnt in this experiment was the scientific names for the water cycle, evaporation, condensation, transpiration, preception and run-off.
