This was the fourth day of our Rotorua Trip. On the fourth day, we didn't do much. So this what happened...
We packed up everything that we had and checked out at 10:30 am. We had a snack at McDonald's Rotorua. I had a wrap and an apple pie. After eating lunch we went in the car and drove straight to Palmerston North.
At Taupo...
We stopped at Taupo for lunch. We went to the restaurant in the city centre.
After eating lunch we left Taupo and it was a 3-hour straight to Palmerston North.
At Palmerston North...
By the time we arrived at Palmerston North, the sun had set and it was dark at Bulls. When we reached at the house, we ate dinner and then went to asleep. There wasn't much to see on the fourth day, as I told you. Comment if you liked my post. Have a cool day!! Bye!!
This was a place I shared my learning up to December 2021.From 2022 onwards I used a different blog platform.

Summer Leaning Journey 2017-18 | Week 4 | Day 4
Contemporary Kiwis
Day 4 - Contemporary Entertainment (2000 - Present)
Activity 1 | Moana
In late 2016, the movie Moana was released by Disney. It’s a beautiful story about a young Polynesian girl from the fictional island of Motunui, who goes on a big adventure.
Watch the trailer for Moana and then write a summary of the movie on your blog. If you’ve seen the movie, you can include your favourite part! Tell us as much as you can about the movie. What is it about? Who are the main characters in the movie? What do they do in the movie? Where do they go?
Moana the Movie
I have already seen this movie and this movie is about a polynesian girl. The ocean chose her to receive the heat of Te Fiti. She vogages the sea and finds Maui and asks him to help to find Te Fifti. After finding the Te Fifti they restore the Te Fifti and Moana puts back the heart. Moana sails back to Motonui and becomes the cheif.
Activity 2 | Country Calendar
Did you know that the longest running television show in New Zealand history is a programme called ‘Country Calendar’? It started on 6 March 1966 and has been running ever since. The programme includes stories of everyday New Zealanders, many of whom are farmers.
Watch this short clip from Country Calendar. What do you think would be the most interesting and/or challenging things about being a farmer? Would you would like to be a farmer when you are older. Why/why not? Give us, at least, two reasons to support your answer.
Being a Farmer
I think the hardest thing about being a farmer would be having to start your day early and ending it late.
I would not like to be a farmer when I grow up because:
- I couldn't deal with all the mess and cow manure the animals make, It'll drive me crazy.

Summer Leaning Journey 2017-18 | Week 3 | Day 4
The Post Wars (1951 - 1999)
Day 4 - Perms & Lycra (The 1980's)
Activity 1 | Hairy Maclary
One of the most famous children’s stories to ever come out of New Zealand, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, was written by a kiwi woman named Lynley Dodd. The book was originally published in 1983. It is now sold in dozens of countries around the world. It features a small dog named Hairy.
On your blog, use the following sentence starter from the original book to finish the story.
“Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy…”
To earn full points, your story should have, at least, 8-10 sentences.
Hairy Maclary
Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, into the world where he had many inquires. "Look! Flowers I wonder what kind, I wonder what other things I can find." Lamp posts, bikes and people all around, hey! It looks like I just made it into town. "I wonder what other things I can find, let's take a look into this shop; I hope they don't mind." Wow! There are books so big they could be the same size as me! And inside are stories as long as the sea. I read the whole thing! It took me awhile, but I can tell you one thing at the end it did make me smile. So, I walked back home, back to Donaldson's Diary, where I had just finished my journey of inquiries.
Activity 2 | The Big "OE"
In the 1980s it became increasingly common for students to graduate from high school and take a year off to travel and experience the world. This year was often referred to as the ‘Big OE’ or ‘Big Overseas Experience.’ A number of kiwis headed to places like Australia and England to live and work before returning to New Zealand to finish their studies.
Imagine that you are a student in the 1980s and you’re about to graduate from high school. Where would you like to go on your big OE? On your blog tell us which country you would visit and give us three (3) reasons for your choice. Find some pictures on the internet of things that you would like to see and do in this country.
I’d love to go to Switzerland and spend lots of time in the mountains, learning how to ski!
England
- London
- Top Sights
- Sightseeing tours
Bonus Activity | The 4 O'clock News
In 1982, Te Karere, a Māori-language news show premiered on television. It has continued to stream live on TV to this day. If you would like to watch it, turn on TV One at 3:55 p.m. each weekday and you will see it. The show is often hosted by a man named Scotty Morrison.
Imagine that you were Scotty Morrison and you were able to interview anyone you wanted. I would choose to interview our new prime minister, Jacinda Ardern. I’d love to know what it is like to be the Prime Minister. What about you? Who would you choose to interview and why? What would you like to find out?
Kane Williamson - Blackcaps Captain
I would interview him because I watch every match of Blackcaps and I am a fan of him. I had a signiture of him but I want to met him. It would be awesome if I interview him.

A period of Change (1870 - 1950)
Day 4 - Another World War (1939 - 1945)
At the end of the 1930s, the world has been shaken once more by the start of another World War (WWII). World War Two started on the 1st of September, 1939 when an army from Germany invaded a country called Poland. Two days later, England and France declared war on Germany and WWII began.
Activity 1 | An Eventful Experience
WWII was made up of many battles and events. Follow this link to read more about the timeline of WWII.
Choose two key events and find out some more information about what happened on those days. On your blog, write a short summary of two events, including the names of people involved and where the event happened.
1. New Zealand declares war on Germany | 3 September 1939
Along with Britain, France and Australia declares war on Germany.
2. New Zealand declares war on Italy. | 11 June 1940
With Australia and South Africa declears war on Italy.

Activity 2 | A Call to Arms
Over the course of WWII, approximately 140,000 New Zealanders were sent overseas to serve in the war. Many were sent to fight in huge battles, including the Battle of the Atlantic that lasted for 2064 days (over 5 years)! The Battle of the Atlantic came to an end in 1943, in large part due to the heroic efforts of people like Lloyd Trigg, a pilot from New Zealand. He was awarded a special medal from the New Zealand Government for his bravery. It is called a Victoria Cross (‘VC’ for short). A total of 22 New Zealanders have been awarded VCs.
Click on this link to find a list of VC winners. Choose one from the Second World War, and read about him. On your blog tell us about him. Who was he? What did he do to earn a Victoria Cross medal?
James Ward
James Ward was the first New Zealand airman to win a VC. James Ward won his award while he was returning from a raid on the German city of Münster on 7 July 1941.

Summer Learning Journey 2017 | Week 1 | Day 4
In the beginning (1800 - 1870)
Day 4 - Hitting a High Note...
Activity 1 | The Waiata - A Song in Your Heart
In the past, Māori would often use song as a way of sharing information or communicating emotions. A waiata is the name given to a traditional Māori song. One of my all-time favourite waiata is Kia Paimarie. What about you?
Use Google to research traditional Māori Waiata. Listen to a number of Waiata and read the lyrics. On your blog tell us which one of the waiata you found you like the most. Why do you like it?
Waiata: He Honore
This is my favourite because it is the only waiata I have ever heard. Also the lyrics is good.
Activity 2 | Playing Games
Hundreds of years ago, young Māori children were taught to play a number of games, including Poi Rakau, Ki O Rahi, Koruru Taonga and Poi Toa. Read about each of these four games on the Rangatahi tu Rangatira website. Have you played any of them before? Isn’t it cool how the games have been passed down for generations?
Choose one game, and on your blog, tell us the (i) name of the game, (ii) the goal or purpose of the game, and (iii) two rules.
(i) Ki O Rahi
(ii)
(iii) - 1 - There are 7 people allowed in each team. - 2 - The players have to hold the ball for 3 to 5 seconds or they have to pass or hand over to the other team.
You could try playing some of the games with a friend.

Melbourne - Australia - Day 4
This is my fourth day at Melbourne. Today I haven't done much so this is a small post. But tomorrow I might do something fun. Now I will tell you what I have done today.
I woke up at 9:00 A.M.
We didn't do much today just stayed home and played UNO and Xbox 360 (Not the whole day). Then later at night we might go to the temple. So this post might be little. Let's start.
It started at 10:00 A.M when we played UNO with my sister, Jaitra, his cousin and I. I won 2 games in a row. Then we played Track and Field also Bowling in Xbox 360. It was really fun playing Track and Field also Bowling. In Bowling I came 3rd because I was versing the pros. Then we played Football (Soccer). I couldn't play well because the sensor was focusing the other player.
At 5:00 P.M we went to the temple. It would take above 1 hour. When we reached the temple the hall was full of people! At 7:00 P.M it was the time to eat every standed up in rows. We ate Sevsar and hot bread. It is one of my favorite food. I had a really good dinner. Then we went to the Bookstall in the temple. We bought some food for us.
I hope you like my post. Have a cool 😎 day!! Bye!!
