Sentence Structure Workshops

At Writing, we learnt about sentence structures. Our teacher had done an example with our class which started with, 'We stood outside for twenty minutes'. We ended the example with, 'This morning we stood freezing outside on the slippery, muddy field in front of school for twenty miserable minutes while we watched Aisa's team play league'. The teacher had made up a sentence that we could work on. The teacher had chosen, 'We played a game for hours'. We made the sentence into a complex sentence.

W.A.L.T: add more detail to sentences.

Here's what we had written:

We played a game for hours.

We played a game for a few hours.

We played a competitive game for a few hours.

We played a competitive game for a few hours inside the gym.

After school, we played a competitive game for a few hours inside the gym.

After school, we played a competitive game for a few hours inside the slippery gym.

After school, we played a competitive game of indoor hockey for a few hours inside the slippery gym.

After school, we played a competitive game for a few hours inside the slippery gym because it was raining outside.

I hope you like my post about our sentence structure. Comment down below if you'd had done a sentence structure before. Have a cool day!! Bye!!

Let's Teach! Reflection

For today's post, I am going to reflect on what happened on Tuesday. So here's the question.

Thinking back to Tuesday's session:

  1. What sport were you presenting?
    • We were presenting our sport that we were allocated in. I was in my class' touch group.
  2. What modifications did your group make, and why?
    • We had to come up with two modifications on Touch.
      1. We made some changes like playing the game with ripper (ripper rugby).
      2. We made the game safe by not tackling.
  3. What went well?
    • We all worked as a team and learnt new sports by listening to the team members. We communicated well and listened to our teammates.
  4. What would you change?
    • In my opinion, the thing that I would like to change is the subs, in the first match, I was subbed off the whole match of touch.
  5. What were the differences between your first and second sessions?
    • As I told you in the first session I got subbed off. In the second half, I wasn't subbed off and we all played well.
  6. Reflection: am I a leader? Why/why not?
    • In my opinion, I think that I am a leader because in some games I lead the team.

I hope you liked my reflection. Have a cool day!! Bye!!

How? Why? What?

Africa is Breaking Up?

Yes, it is true, Africa is breaking up in two pieces. Do you think that you believe me? No, yes?

So, let's go back to the topic. Africa is breaking up because the two plates, Somalian and Nubian Plates are moving away from each other. On my Plate Tectonics post, I had written that,

It's the Plate Tectonic is the Earth's outer shell that is divided into several plates that move over the mantle. These slow-moving structures interact with each other.

The East African Rift System
Credit: https://www.usatoday.com/
This is called the 'East African Rift System' (EARS), which is one of the geologic wonders of the world. To make it easier to understand, a rift is like a fracture on Earth's surface.

How Did It Start?

So what happened was that the massive cracked suddenly appeared in Kenya. The crack began to grow because of heavy rain. This made the Kenya-Nairobi highway which made the highway collapse. This is one good example of Plate Tectonics. This active rift zone is spreading a few millimetres every year. Which means, around 10 million years after, a new ocean will emerge as the East Africa tears apart.

What Had We Done

On Tuesday, we had been with our sport group and versed SH's sport team. So, I was in Touch with Christian, Aisa, David, Travis and more. Aisa was the coach of the team because he knew heaps of things. We had modified the game and played Ripper Rugby, but safe. We were not allowed to tackle so people wouldn't get hurt. So today, because it was rainy 🌧, we had to write the reflection of what we had done on Tuesday. Next Tuesday, we are going to present our sport to other sport teams. It was really fun. So here are the questions:

  • What did you do on Tuesday?
    • We played in our sport groups.
  • Within your sport group what worked well?
    • Every member of our team contributed to the game.
  • What do you need to change for next time?
    • We need to take the game more seriously. Because it was a flop.
  • What are you looking forward to when you present?
    • We will try our personal best at Touch and let others know how to play Touch.
I hope you like my reflection on what happened on Tuesday!! Comment down below if you've played Touch before or you want to play Touch. Have a cool day!! Bye!!

The Three Bad Pigs and One Good Wolf

For today's post, I will be telling you about our plans for our movie. A few weeks ago, I had posted about our Movie Reflection. In that post, I had shown our 1-minute movie that JV, Christian and I made.

So here is the WALT

W.A.L.T. - I can write a narrative using correct structure about the narrative you wrote to create the movie.

To make it understanding, in our group there are BlakeNikoTysonRyan and Regan. We had to make a movie which is a fairy tale with a twist. Below is our crew:

Niko - Benjamin (Pig 1)
Tyson - Noah (Pig 2)
Blake - Bryce (Pig 3)
Regan - Wolf, Music
Ryan - Cameraman
Khush - Director/Editor/Scriptwriter

Here is our script

Benjamin - “I’m quite bored.” - Throws the rock on the ground
Noah - “What do you mean?” - Bryce looks at the advertisement for a bank job.
Bryce - “Why don’t we rob a bank.”
Noah - “That’s an amazing idea!”
Benjamin - “But how are we going to do it?”
Bryce - “I’ve got a plan...” “You see the advertisement there, why don’t we work at a bank and…”\Noah - “
Bryce - “So I was saying was that we are going to pretend to work at the bank and steal the money.”
Noah - “That’s a really good idea.”
Bryce - “We should build on it. First, we are going to get an application for the job.”
Benjamin - “Nah, let’s do it this way, I think that on Thursday we should rob the bank.”
Noah - “A really good idea.”
Benjamin - “How can we rob the bank?”
Bryce - “Let’s get the blueprint of the bank.”
Noah - “Let’s go to the bank and try to get the blueprint.”
Bryce - “What we will do is that we will act to give the application to the boss. When the boss is out of his office we will take his blueprint and the…”
Benjamin - “Money!”

Thursday night…

Pigs enter the bank with style.
Benjamin - “It’s time to get the money.”
Noah - “Yea.”
Bryce - “I’m coming in a minute.”
Blake goes and gets the money.
Bryce - has the money the money and he ditches everyone.
On the way, the Wolf sees Bryce with the money. The wolf runs to get the Bryce.
Wolf trips on the ground, Bryce laughs and crashes on the wall.

Bryce wakes up and releases it was all a dream…

DUN DUN DUN!!!

What is Ki O Rahi?

For P.E, we have been playing Ki O Rahi, which is Māori traditional sport. For the past few weeks, we have been playing games which include skills of Ki O Rahi. First, we had played Bench Ball which includes the skill of passing and catching the ball. Next, we had played Long Ball, which includes hitting the target (the person, when they are going to the safe zone). After playing Bench Ball, we had started researching about how we play Ki O Rahi, what are the equipment, the rules, and how we play it. I was working with JV and this is what we have got.

I should've posted this a few weeks ago. 😟

I hope you like my post about Ki O Rahi. Comment down below ↓ about what you like about my post and slideshow, also comment, what I need to do next time (next steps). Have you played Ki O Rahi before? Comment down below ↓ !! Have a cool day!! Bye!!

Let's take action!

For today's post, I am posting about the Community Impact Project. Four classes, 7/8 DS, 7/8 SH, 7/8 BH and 7/8 TZ have been working together in communities. We had to answer these questions below. Hope you like it.

  • Explain what community you have joined
    • I have chosen the Global Community.
  • Explain why this group is your passion
    • I want to help the community to make it clean.
  • Explain one idea your interested in
    • I am interested in people doing the right thing and doing something to help the community.
  • How do you think you will achieve this idea?
    • I will achieve my idea by making posters in the community by showing it what goes in what bins. Also, show them why it is important to put our rubbish in the bin rather than littering it.

I hope you like my questions about what I have been doing. Have a cool day!! Bye!!

Red, Ladder, Sinking, Coins, Pavement?

For today's post, I am going to share the 100-word challenge that I had written. Our prompt was 5 words that had to put in the story: red, ladder, sinking, coins and pavement. We had to make a piece of writing that must include the five words in exactly 100 words. Here is my writing:

There was a boy named Ben. He likes finding things. There was a pavement leading to a cave named The Red Cave. Ben went inside to look around.

There he found a ladder sinking in a well. He saw something shining under the water. Ben thought to find out what was happening, so he jumped in. As he went closer, the shine became rising. Ben said, “What even is that?” There was an underground secret pathway. Ben had his torch and went further, suddenly with a surprise he saw coins. He was happy with joy. Ben woke up in joy.

Here is my proof of my 100 words.

I hope you like my post about my 100-word challenge. Comment down below what you liked about my 100-word challenge and what I need to do next. Have you done a 100-word challenge before? Comment down below ↓ . Have a cool day!! Bye!!

Let's Do DMIC Maths

For today's post, I will be posting about what we had done today morning. Today, someone from DMIC Maths came to our class to teach our teacher. So, we had to figure out a problem-solving maths question. We had to be in our DMIC Maths groups and figure out the question. I was in a group with JV, Khyle and Rican. It was a question about the Sports Uniform. The problem was:

'A sports team shirt with your name printed on it costs $30 if your name has six letters. If your name had ten letters, the same shirt will cost you $38. The cost is worked out on the price of a plain shirt plus a standard amount added on for each letter.' The question was:

1. What is the price of a plain shirt (with no name printed)?
2. What would be the total price for shirts for the member of your group?

First, we had discussed as a class about how we communicate as a group. There were answers like,

  • Sharing ideas too
  • Helping others - not one person doing all the work
  • Speak clearly and asking others to do the same
  • If you disagree, don't make a big deal about it

In our group, we discussed what our opinion was. First, the teacher said to think about the question. Next, we had to discuss with our group, Khyle went first. He said that the price of the plain shirt (with no name printed) was $18, I had the same answer too. Later, he said that one letter equals $2, JV and I agreed. Four letters equal $8, I had done it by 1 letter equal $2.

After solving the first question, we starting solving question 2. What we had done first was that we had told how long was our name, mine was five. So, we times it by two and added by $18, then we added them together, we got $80 for three people.

After the time to solve was over, we all sat on the mat and shared our solving. Our group was one of the two to show the class how we solved the problem. We showed them what we had written in our big piece of paper.

It was a really good morning working out a maths question. I hope you like my reflection of my morning today. Have a cool day!! Bye!!

Our Movie Reflection

For today's post, I will be reflecting on our movie-making project. We have made 1-minute movies with a group of 3. We had to write storyboards and learn about film angles. In the one-minute movies, we had to add a twist.

First of all, the teachers introduced the topic. We watched three one-minute movies. We learnt about the camera angles and sound effects that were used. We went in a group of three. In my group, there were, JV, Christian and I. JV and I was the actors, Christian was the cameraman. We had to make our movie on iMovie. Below is the movie that we made.

After making our movie, we had to make our proper movie (because it was a tester). The theme was fairy tales with a twist. We watched a video of how it looked like. We had to choose a group of five. We first chose the roles that we are going to do in the movie. (I don't know why we chose it first.) I was the director and editor of the group. Ryan was the cameraman. Well, in my group, there is Blake, Niko, Tyson, Ryan and Regan.  We chose to do something similar to the Three Little Pigs fairy tale. I chose to change the whole story up. I changed the title to 'Three Bad Pigs and A Big Good Wolf.

I hope you like my reflection about our movie that we are going to make. Have a cool day!! Bye!!

Try to Answer this

For today's post, we had to post about a maths DLO that we had done. We had an activity to answer a question that the teacher had set. Almost the whole class understood and knew the question. In that question, the question didn't have numbers, there were images of parts of cars. We had to figure out what each part means. When we all figured it out, our teacher told us about BEDMAS, which means, Brackets, Exponents, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction. Our teacher gave us an activity to make a question like that one. I worked with David and to make our own question. We used fruits to make the question. David and I thought to make this question hard. Try to answer it. Can you figure it out? Comment down below what you're answer is.

I hope you like my post about my question. Comment down below if you've figured out the question. Have a cool day!! Bye!!
