Which One Doesn't Belong? | Summer Learning Journey 2020-21 | Week 1, Activity 1 & 2

Welcome to another post on my blog. Today, I completed another activity from the Summer Learning Journey 2020-21. This activity is called 'Which One Doesn't Belong?'. We had given a slide deck with various kinds of images and we had to write which one doesn't belong. But, there was a catch, not just one thing didn't belong. I had justify a number of reasons why each one doesn’t belong. On the last slide, I had to design my own 'Which One Doesn’t Belong?' on the final slide to challenge others. Then lastly, I had to blog about my work.

Te Reo Māori - What are you doing today? | Summer Learning Journey 2020-21 | Week 1, Activity 1

Welcome to another post on my blog. Today, I completed another activity for the Summer Learning Journey 2020-21. This activity was about Te Reo Māori. I first had to make a copy of the slide deck given, complete the activities on the first six slides and practise your pronunciation with a video. Next, draw a picture of our whānau doing one of the activities on slide 5. Label it with the sentence that tells people what you are doing. Then lastly, share our slide deck and a screenshot of our picture on our blog. Share our slide deck on our blog. Remember to describe what you learnt, what was fun and what was challenging.

What I've Learnt

  • How to say “What are you doing today?” in Māori. - Kei te aha koe i tēnei rā?
  • How to reply to the answer in Māori. - Kei te haere au ki te chosen option.
  • Basketball in Māori is 'tākaro poitūkohu'.
  • Touch Rugby in Māori is 'tākaro pā whutupōro'.
  • Netball in Māori is 'tākaro netipōro'.
  • Swimming in Māori is 'kaukau'.
  • Beach in Māori is 'tātahi'.
  • Playground in Māori is 'papa tākaro'.

What is fun?

Making the image below the slide deck. It took time, but, it was fun to make the image.

What was challenging?

Nothing, it was easy to complete.

Fishy False Teeth | Summer Learning Journey 2020-21 | Week 1, Activity 1

Welcome to another post on my blog. This year, I've again decided to participate in the Summer Learning Journey for 2020-21. For the first activity for this journey, we had to read an article about the Fishy False Teeth and using the slides given, complete the activity. We had to watch a video and then create our own comic using the Google Slide template. Lastly, we had to share our comic on your blog by taking a screen shot of the slide and uploading it to our blog.

COVID Vaccine Q&A

For Power to the People, we were given a task to go on Stuff and read an article for politics, then answer questions given by the teacher.

I read about the COVID-19 vaccine which could come out by March, said my Jacinda Ardern.

  1. What was the article about?
    • The COVID-19 vaccine
  2. Who is the target audience?
    • People who want to know when the vaccine is going to come out.
  3. What is one thing I learnt?
    • That the vaccine might come up in March.

COVID Vaccine could be out on March (but, not for everyone) - according to Jacinda Ardern

A Covid-19 vaccine may be rolled out as early as March, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says. But if it is, it won’t be available for all.

“At this point, our expectation that we have been running to is more around the March date,” Ardern told Newstalk ZB on Monday. “[But] not everyone is receiving [the] vaccination at the same time.

“It won’t happen in one fell swoop.”

The prime minister said nothing was set in stone and the Government was still working towards finalising agreements.

Frontline workers are expected to be prioritised when the first doses become available, followed by those deemed most vulnerable, including elderly, Māori and Pasifika communities.

Ardern's comments come after the United Kingdom announced the first Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines could be available in a week. Hospitals in the UK have been told to prepare for deliveries on December 7.

Dates around the world differed, however. “Different countries have different dates,” Ardern told Newstalk ZB.

The prime minister has been in talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron. Germany is reportedly aiming for vaccine approval by mid-December, while France is aiming for January.

New Zealand has already signed agreements with Pfizer and BioNTech, Janssen Pharmaceutica, and the COVAX facility. Collectively, these agreements will guarantee vaccines for more than half the population.

Ardern expects more vaccine arrangements will be publicly announced by the end of the year. At that point, she is planning to do a “general mop-up” of all the finalised agreements to give New Zealanders a better idea of what the vaccination plan will be moving forward.

Any vaccine planning to enter the New Zealand market will need to be approved by Medsafe first, regardless of approvals already given overseas.

“It is not going to get the big tick in New Zealand unless they are satisfied,” vaccinologist Dr Helen Petousis-Harris previously told Stuff. “They have really got their work cut out for them now.”

Medsafe is not able to provide specific timeframes for approvals but said a decision could be made within a few months of receiving the full dataset.
