Exploring A Hidden Continent

Welcome to another post about countries. In this post, you will be learning about a hidden continent.

As you know, there are 7 continents, Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Antarctica and Oceania (Australia).

Zealandia would be also known as the '8th continent' or the 'hidden continent'.

It might of sound like Zealand, of New Zealand, right?

Map of Zealandia - depth (m)
Credit: http://static.stuff.co.nz/files/zealandia.jpg

Zealandia covers New Zealand and New Caledonia. As you can see, the land of Zealandia is mostly underwater. Zealandia is also known as the New Zealand continent.

Zealandia sunken after breaking away from Australia 60-85 million years ago. Antarctica separated from Zealandia between 85-130 million years ago. If Zealandia was still here, then Zealandia would've been the 8th continent.

Zealandia covers about 4.9 million square km and 94% is underwater. Zealandia is about 2/3 the size of Australia. The water depth in the ocean is about 4,000 metres deep and Chatams island and New Caledonia is about 1,000 metres. Zealandia is large and enough to be recognised as a conformed continent.

Zealandia was up about five per cent of the area of Gondwana (a supercontinent, now it's part of India). The thickness range of Zealandia is from 10 to 30 kilometres, where it gets up to 40 kilometres in the South Island. Zealandia is six times bigger than Madagascar and twelve times bigger than Mauritia.

Here is a video about Zealandia. It's about exploring Zealandia. Hope you like it.

I hope you like my post about Zealandia. Comment down below if you've learnt new today!! Have a cool day!! Bye!!

Tapuae

Welcome to another post about our Physical Education Hurumanu. Today, we were focusing on a game we played on Monday called Tapuae. Firstly, we had watched a video about how to play the game. Afterwards, we went outside to the courts and played the sport in our groups. We had only played a game, but it was fun. We played Tapuae for half an hour. It was the end of the period and we got sent inside. We had to write an instructional writing about Tapuae and how it's played.

Here is a video how to play Tapuae.

After watching the video, you will understand how to play. If you want more information about Tapuae, click here. So here is my instructional writing. Hope you like it.

Do you know how play Tapuae?

Aim: To learn and play Tapuae.

Equipment

  • 18 Cones
  • Ki (ball)
  • Tapu (tennis balls)
  • Sports bibs (optional)
  • 14 players (teams of 7)

Steps

  1. Get some cones, tennis balls and a ball (netball or a dodgeball)
  2. Set the put three cones in each end, with tennis balls on top.
  3. Put cones around the cones with tennis balls.
  4. Sort out the teams. Teams of 7
  5. Sort out the positions of the players - Guardian, Defenders, Attackers
  6. Start playing!!!

Conclusion

This game is really active and good to play to be active. You need to move around and pass around. You win the game by hitting the cones the most. Then you win!!

I hope you like my post about Tapuae. Hope you learnt a new sport to play. Comment down below what you've learnt today!! Have a cool day!! Bye!!

For the last few weeks, we have been working on a meal challenge. I added our aim, the equipment (we used), the ingredients and the steps. We had gone to Pak'n'save with Mt and Ds.

Aim: We are making a healthy and nutritious autumn meal for six people.

  • Strainer
  • Pan
  • Spoons
  • Ovens
  • Forks
  • Pepper
  • Salt

Pasta Spaghetti X2 $2.00 (for both)  =$2

Pasta Sauce - $1.50 - per 500g

Juice per - $1.80 - 1L X1

Diced tomato 70c - per 400g,

Hot sauce $2.00

To complete this challenge, we had to complete the following:
  • TEAM - Make a team of 6 people … no more, no less
  • BUDGET - You have $12 to spend (you will need to bring $2 each)
  • QUANTITIES - You must plan your meal for 6 people
  • HEALTHY - Your meal must be healthy & nutritious
  • MENU IDEAS - Find some recipes and visit the Countdown website for food costs.
  • RECIPE & PLAN - Use your instructional/procedural writing skills to write clear instructions for your team to follow when you are preparing your meal. You will need to make sure you have the correct quantities, include all ingredients and equipment you will require e.g. large pot for cooking pasta, chopping knife, can opener etc.

Reflection

  • How it tasted
    • The spaghetti tasted well and I think that there should be more flavour added.
  • Overall Experience
  • Trip + how shopping went
    • It went well because we had our budget sorted and we had our food bought under $12. There was some discount on some items, so we saved $3.
  • How you got on with your group.
    • Our group went well, we got everything sorted.

I hope you like my post about our Meal Challenge. Comment down below if you've done a challenge like that. Have a cool day!! Bye!!

Physical Education

This new Hurumanu, we are doing Physical Education. You might be thinking, why again? But, we are doing Physical Education with Maths. Also, it is with our homeroom teacher. Our last Physical Education Hurumanu, we had it with another teacher.

We hadn't blogged last week, because we had to do the Beep Test. There were some questions that we will be answering. To let you know, we are split into groups. Hope you like it.

    1. What makes a good team player? What skills & attributes do you need to display/use?
      • I am a good team player because I have sportsmanship, I never give up when it's challenging. A good team player is where you listen to each other when they'are talking. You need co-operating and communicating skills to display to be a good team player. You need to talk to people.
    2. What is your role within your team? What does your role involve?
      • My role is co-manager. Helping the manager and supporting when they need help. Managing the team by knowing and sorting out the uniform, how the players are doing, knowing where the team is playing and more.
    3. How could you be a better team player?
      • I think that I can be a better team player by communicating more and talking to others.
List three things to work on and how you can be successful at this?

  1. Communication
    • Talking and sharing ideas with the team. Taking part when our team is talking.
  2. Teamwork
    • Helping each other when they need help.
  3. Co-operating
    • Working with a partner to finish the task.

What We Had Done | DMIC Maths

Yesterday, we had done DMIC maths. We had done another problem, but it was relating to graphs and charts.

There were heaps of things that I learnt yesterday, like, recording information in a chart, interpreting information, comparing information, axis and labels. My group went well, we had completed the work on time.

Introduction | Digital Technology

We had just started a new hurumanu called Digital Technology. We had discussed Social, Environmental and Ethical. We had watched some clips about those three topics. Next, we had to write our knowledge in a document. After, we had to brainstorm about those topics and choose one topic that we have interest in. There are some questions that I will be answering about Digital Technology. Here we go.

  • What do we think this Digital Technology Hurumanu will be about?
    • I think that this Digital Technology Hurumanu will include making an app, making websites and a game.
  • What do you already know about D.T., eg: apps, etc.
    • I can print from a printer.
    • I can use a range of apps like Google, and more others that I can't think off yet.
  • What are you hoping to learn during this Hurumanu?
    • I am hoping to learn about coding and learning new coding information. I want to try to make my own app.
