The Duathlon

Yesterday, we had a Duathlon race (a wheels and also running race). I had a bike with me. First the youngest kids started. It started from the year 1 to year 6.

Biking 🚲 on my last lap at Hornby High School Courts
Firstly, we got our bikes or scooters out from the scooter stand. The scooter stand was full with vehicles. We had to start from our schools field and run to the high school.

I was last when year 6s were racing. But I catched up and rid as fast as I could. My legs were tired when I drove really fast. I had to stop some places because some people were in front or behind me.

After my second lap for the biking, I took my helmet fast as I could and started running. In my first lap it felt weird running the opposite side as running for my fitness. When I finished my first lap I was jogging fast and tried to run. But I wanted to run at the end. I jogged fast to reach the end. I stopped some places because I was tired. At the end I was exhausted! I came 5th place. It was a really good first Duathlon. I hope you like my post about my first Duathlon. Have a cool 😎 day!! Bye!!

W.A.L.T: Add Equivalent Fractions

This week for maths we are learning to Add Equivalent Fractions. Watch this video for more information how to solve Add Equivalent Fractions is. I felt this strategy new and helpful for any questions. If there is any mistakes please comment. Hope you like my video! Have a cool 😎 day!! Bye!!

Our first question today is 4/5 + 1/20 =
The easiest way to answer this question is to times 4/5 by 4. So that fraction will be 16/20. Now add 1/20 to that so the answer will be 17/20.

Our second question today is 2/3 + 4/12 =
The easiest way to answer this question is to times 2/3 by 4. So the fraction will be 8/12. Let's add 8/12 + 4/12 and the answer will be 12/12.

Trip to Spencer Park

W.A.L.T Write an information report that informs the audience.

Success Criteria
I know I will be successful when….
  • I use an opening statement that explains the subject of the report.

  • The opening statement is followed by sentences that describe the event; what you saw, what you did, how you felt, what you learnt.
  • Each paragraph focuses on a different aspect of the topic; travelling, the beach, the lagoon walk, playground.
  • A general statement about the topic usually rounds off the report.

Trip to Spencer Park

Last week (on Friday) Ako Ngatahi and some of the other classes from Hornby Primary School travelled to Spencer Park to have a learning and fun day. It was a bright and sunny day. We were put in groups before going to Spencer Park. I was in group 4 H.

On the bus I sat with Axle and Vann. In the bus Axle, Vann and I laughed, talked and told some jokes. Axle showed Vann and I the temperature, it was 22°C. In the bus when I was sleeping Vann and Axle made a prank on me, Axle said if I sleep Vann will draw a figure on my cheek. When I slept a bit Vann drew a mini figure on my cheek. But it was really Axle.

When we finally reached Spencer Park we went to our groups. Our group and one other group went to the playground for 10 minutes. Vann and Jullien were in my group. Most of the playground was filled with South Hornby School.

After 10 minutes it was our turn to go to the beach. We went to a new/shorter way to go to the beach. When we reached at the beach we didn’t saw lots of shells.

The teachers for our group, Whea Heather and Mrs Scott chose a spot to put our bags down. We opened our plastic bags from our bag and wrote our name. After the teachers told us the instructions we set out to find a driftwood and 10 other sea treasures. When I set out to find the sea treasures I found 3 sea shells and a driftwood. While looking for some sea treasures some of the people found a Blue Bottle Jellyfish. We learnt not to touch the Blue Bottle Jellyfish because it can sting you. After looking at the sea treasures we had Morning Tea. Some people finished Morning Tea earlier so we had to play at the sand near the sea. Some people made sandcastles, caves and other things.

We walked back to the playground. Our next destination was the Brooklands Lagoon Walk. It was my first time going to the Brooklands Lagoon Walk. We had to walk to a path near Adrenalin Forest. The path was muddy and rocky. We saw a swamp when we arrived at the Brooklands Lagoon Walk. As well we saw some birds at the swamp with long legs (because the birds can’t sink) and heaps cobwebs. We saw a Bird Lookout nearby. So we went there to have a look at the birds at the swamp. The teachers decided to take a photo after seeing the birds at the bird lookout. When I reached at the top of the bird lookout I could see the whole swamp, it was really long. I waved at the teachers and said ”Hi!” Then after some seconds later… The bird lookout was full with people! I didn’t want to get out of the bird lookout. Next I saw a list of birds by the side. It was the time to go back to the playground. But before that the teachers took some photos of as in a group. While going back to the playground, Whea Heather took a photo of a cobweb.

We reached the playground and had lunch. Mr Scott said if you’ve finished your lunch you can play on the playground. I finished my lunch early and played on the playground again. After 45 minutes we had to go back to school. It was a really good trip at Spencer Park. Mostly the swamp because I had to learn some new birds. At the beach I learnt not to touch the Blue Bottle Jellyfish because it will sting you.

Anyway we had to sit in our class lines near a tree. We went in the bus class by class. I sat in the front of the bus with Mrs Millard. We went happily back to school.

The Coolest Present Ever!

W.A.L.T:  Write a narrative

Success Criteria
I know I will be successful when….

  • The title is suitable for the text.
  • The orientation tells who the story is about, and when and where the story happened.
  • The complication describes a problem and explains what happened next.
  • The resolution explains how the problem was solved.
  • Seeks feedback and makes changes to texts to improve clarity and meaning.

In Ako Ngatahi we had to write a narrative about a video. It was about a boy opening a present that was a dog with three legs. Here is the video of the present. I hope you enjoy my story.

The Coolest Present Ever!

One really hot afternoon I decided to play Xbox 360 when my Mum was at work. I shut the blinds because it was too hot. I had a selection of games in the TV cupboard.

When Mum arrived from work she had a box in her hand. Then Mum put the box in front of me.

“What was inside the box? Was it a new console, a comic? or something else?” I thought.

I was still playing on my Xbox 360, then my Mum had a phone call. My Mum said before answering the phone call “I’ve got a present for you. Open it.” I decided to open the box to see what is inside it?

When I opened the lid of the box a dog barked at me. It had bright yellow skin with a black nose and brown eyes.

I called out “Wow!! Awesome!!” The best present ever!!”

When I picked up the dog I saw that he had a half left leg. I dropped the dog on the ground.

The dog sat up and came to me, I kicked the dog and said “Get lost!”

When the dog was looking upside down he saw a red softy ball under the table. The dog ran and smacked the cupboard door on his head (Smash)! After getting the ball he ran to me with the red ball. I kicked the ball and hit the box that the dog came in and still carried on with my game. The dog ran but fell down on the ground because of his left arm the dog sat up and ran but fell again. He jumped and trapped himself in the box. He tried to find the ball but he couldn’t find the ball instead he smacked the TV cupboard. After getting out of the box the dog couldn’t find the red ball in the box. I laughed. Then I remembered that I had to concentrate on the game. I couldn’t concentrate because the dog was barking and running to get the red ball. When the dog noticed me watching him the dog ran the ball to me with the red ball in his mouth. But fell down, after falling down the dog tried to balance himself to not fall down. The dog dropped the ball in front of me.

“Maybe it’s awesome with friend that has got half a leg like me?” I thought.

I took the ball, got the crutches and put the ball in my pocket.

“Mum we’ll be outside.” I said to my mum.

We played fetch out in the front yard the whole afternoon.
