The Games are Back!

The Commonwealth Games has come back! It is being held in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. There are 71 nations participating in the Commonwealth Games. The games will start tomorrow (4th April). I am excited to cheer for New Zealand. I'll tell you some facts about the Commonwealth Games.

There will be 275 events in 19 sports. It will start at 4 April to 15 April. The motto of this Commonwealth Games is "Share the Dream". This years Commonwealth Games is officially known as XXI Commonwealth Games. This is the fifth time when Australia is hosted for the Commonwealth Games. The main stadium is Carrara Stadium. How did Gold Coast got chosen for the Commonwealth Games?

There would be a bid for which city the Commonwealth Games be hosted. The bid started at 31st March, 2010. There were only two cities where on the bid for the Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast and Hambantota in Sri Lanka. Hambantota got 27 votes when Gold Coast got 43 votes. The announcement was at Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis. There are some recommended cities that didn't went to application.

Perth conformed in 2009 that they won't host the games in 2018.

John Key said that the issue wasn't the cost of the bid but it would cost to run the event. John Key said New Zealand would face a NZ$600 million loss.

Port of Spain launched a bid for the Commonwealth Games but the Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth Games Association decided to not go further on.
