Sentence Structure Workshops

At Writing, we learnt about sentence structures. Our teacher had done an example with our class which started with, 'We stood outside for twenty minutes'. We ended the example with, 'This morning we stood freezing outside on the slippery, muddy field in front of school for twenty miserable minutes while we watched Aisa's team play league'. The teacher had made up a sentence that we could work on. The teacher had chosen, 'We played a game for hours'. We made the sentence into a complex sentence.

Here's what we had written:

We played a game for hours.

We played a game for a few hours.

We played a competitive game for a few hours.

We played a competitive game for a few hours inside the gym.

After school, we played a competitive game for a few hours inside the gym.

After school, we played a competitive game for a few hours inside the slippery gym.

After school, we played a competitive game of indoor hockey for a few hours inside the slippery gym.

After school, we played a competitive game for a few hours inside the slippery gym because it was raining outside.

Let's Teach! Reflection

For today's post, I am going to reflect on what happened on Tuesday. So here's the question.

Thinking back to Tuesday's session:

1. What sport were you presenting?
• We were presenting our sport that we were allocated in. I was in my class' touch group. 
2. What modifications did your group make, and why?
• We had to come up with two modifications on Touch. 
1. We made some changes like playing the game with ripper (ripper rugby). 
2. We made the game safe by not tackling.
3. What went well?
• We all worked as a team and learnt new sports by listening to the team members. We communicated well and listened to our teammates. 
4. What would you change?
• In my opinion, the thing that I would like to change is the subs, in the first match, I was subbed off the whole match of touch. 
5. What were the differences between your first and second sessions?
• As I told you in the first session I got subbed off. In the second half, I wasn't subbed off and we all played well.
6. Reflection: am I a leader? Why/why not?
• In my opinion, I think that I am a leader because in some games I lead the team.

How? Why? What?

Africa is Breaking Up?

Yes, it is true, Africa is breaking up in two pieces. Do you think that you believe me? No, yes?

So, let's go back to the topic. Africa is breaking up because the two plates, Somalian and Nubian Plates are moving away from each other. On my Plate Tectonics post, I had written that,

It's the Plate Tectonic is the Earth's outer shell that is divided into several plates that move over the mantle. These slow-moving structures interact with each other.

The East African Rift System

This is called the 'East African Rift System' (EARS), which is one of the geologic wonders of the world. To make it easier to understand, a rift is like a fracture on Earth's surface.

How Did It Start?

So what happened was that the massive cracked suddenly appeared in Kenya. The crack began to grow because of heavy rain. This made the Kenya-Nairobi highway which made the highway collapse. This is one good example of Plate Tectonics. This active rift zone is spreading a few millimetres every year. Which means, around 10 million years after, a new ocean will emerge as the East Africa tears apart.

What Had We Done

On Tuesday, we had been with our sport group and versed SH's sport team. So, I was in Touch with Christian, Aisa, David, Travis and more. Aisa was the coach of the team because he knew heaps of things. We had modified the game and played Ripper Rugby, but safe. We were not allowed to tackle so people wouldn't get hurt. So today, because it was rainy 🌧, we had to write the reflection of what we had done on Tuesday. Next Tuesday, we are going to present our sport to other sport teams. It was really fun. So here are the questions:

• What did you do on Tuesday?
• We played in our sport groups.
• Within your sport group what worked well?
• Every member of our team contributed to the game. 
• What do you need to change for next time?
• We need to take the game more seriously. Because it was a flop.
• What are you looking forward to when you present?
• We will try our personal best at Touch and let others know how to play Touch.

Our New Topic

For Community Impact Project (CIP), we are starting a new topic. We are going to make Rubbish Art. Below are questions of the project, what are we going to do.

• What is the project?
• Picking up rubbish in Hornby High School and the community. Making our community cleaner. Creating art from the rubbish.
• What is the purpose?
• We can be more creative. 
• How much rubbish do you think that we are going to collect? Why do you think that?
• Around 200~400 pieces.
• What colours do you think that we are going to see the most? Why?
• Just depends on the rubbish. How much rubbish we collect. 
• What type of art would you like to create?
• Something that would help the community. Making plastic bottles and bags which we can reuse.
